Vieux Carré

Named in honour of the classic cocktail — and as a nod to the French Quarter of New Orleans — Vieux Carré is a “speakeasy” style bar just steps from Place Royale in Old Québec. Filling a long-awaited need in the neighbourhood, this intimate, softly lit venue offers stunning views of Place de Paris and the St. Lawrence River. Here, the bar and kitchen meet in a refined yet relaxed setting, where exceptional cocktails and inventive cuisine come together to create unique and festive moments.

Our menu highlights reimagined classics with a contemporary twist: shared plates, elevated local products, and perfectly paired flavours designed to complement our mixology creations. Each cocktail tells its own story — blending timeless traditions with modern daring — crafted by a team passionate about the art of bartending.

More than just a bar, Vieux Carré is a place of gathering, discovery, and celebration. In an elegant and friendly atmosphere, we invite you to enjoy an experience where creativity and hospitality intertwine seamlessly.

“A service that stands out, comes through human warmth and little attentions.”

“For a brief moment, you forget about harsh lands, hardship, and epidemics. Only one rule remains: to connect, to celebrate, to warm the heart and soul—and forget the bitter cold of winter and the struggle to survive. Cheers!”

— Jacques Boisdon, Quebec City’s first innkeeper, 1648

“As a resident of the neighborhood since my arrival in Quebec City, I wanted to create a place and an experience that I felt was missing nearby. A gathering spot where you can extend your evenings, enjoy the view, and above all, drink and dine well until late.”

— Philippe Veilleux, Restaurant manager at Vieux Carré

“A great speak-easy style bar with signature cocktails. You enter through a black doorway behind the hostess for the neighboring restaurant. A bonus is that all their mixers are made in Quebec, so you are experiencing the beauty of the providence too.”

— Jamie H, Google Review
